• Box and whisker plots
  This leaflet will show how to calculate box and whisker plots. Box plots are summary plots based on the median and interquartile range which contains 50% of the values. Whiskers extend from the box to the highest and lowest values, excluding outliers. A line across the box indicates the median.
• Mean, median and mode
  Measures of central tendency, or averages, are used in a variety of contexts and form the basis of statistics.
• The mean
  This page will show how to calculate the mean from a frequency table and how to obtain an estimate of the mean from a grouped frequency table.
• Variance and standard deviation (grouped data)
  In this leaflet we extend the definitions of variance and standard deviation to data which has been grouped.
• Variance and standard deviation (ungrouped data)
  In this leaflet we introduce variance and standard deviation as measures of spread. We can evaluate the variance of a set of data from the mean, that is how far the observations deviate from the mean.
